Legal Aspects of Social Forestry
Governed by various regulations from the Minister of Environment and Forestry (Permen LHK) such as Permen LHK No. 83 of 2016, Permen LHK No. 39 of 2017, Permen LHK No. 37 of 2019, Permen LHK No. 17 of 2020, Permen LHK No. 11 of 2020, Permen LHK No. 9 of 2021, and Permen LHK No. 4 of 2023.
Goals of Social Forestry
To enhance community welfare through empowerment mechanisms while maintaining forest sustainability. This provides significant opportunities for communities around forests to manage and utilize forest lands.
Social Forestry Schemes
Various schemes include Community Forestry (HKm), Village Forests (HD), Community Plantation Forests (HTR), Forestry Partnerships, and Customary/Private Forests. Each scheme focuses on empowering local communities to utilize and manage forests.
Utilization of Social Forestry
General application requirements include having a community group, cooperative, or other related institution, as well as providing a proposed location map and general area description. Utilization of forest products is conducted based on a management plan developed with the help of forestry extension workers.
